About me

I live in Vicenza, Italy, also known as the town of Palladio because of its many famous buildings designed by the great Renaissance architect. I received the laurea degree in Electronic Engineering (with main specialization in Bioengineering) from the University of Padova, Italy in April, 2003, defending a thesis about "Deconvolution Methods for Estimating Hepatic Glucose Production".

In April, 2007 I received the Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the Department of Information Engineering (DEI), with a thesis on "Estimation of Hepatic Glucose Production by Deconvolution: a Novel Method Assessed on Simulated and IVGTT & Meal Data". Since November, 2007 I am a postdoctoral fellow at the Predictive Models for Biological and Environmental Data Analysis unit at the Fondazione Bruno Kessler in Trento, Italy

During the PhD program I worked on deconvolution problems, modelling of physiological systems, nonparametric linear and nonlinear regularization techniques, and identification of dynamical systems, with a particular emphasis on endocrine-metabolic systems. I am now working mostly in the bioinformatics field: my recent research activity deals with preprocessing and downstream analysis of next-generation sequencing data, genome-wide association studies based on high-throughput SNP and CNV microarrays, proteomics data analysis, and population genetics.

Music plays a great role in my life; started as a "spare time activity" when I was 6, my passion gradually grew into something deeper and more meaningful, so that at the age of 10 I enrolled at the Conservatory of my town, from which I received the degrees in Piano (1999) and Composition (2002).

Besides the piano, I play the organ, an instrument that has always interested me because of its great versatility and expressive capabilities.
